A userpic browser like on LJ would be fantastic.
A userpic browser? I'm not sure what you mean by that.
i think they meant something like this.
Oh, I get it now. Thanks. It won't be too difficult, but it will take a bit before I'm ready to do it. :)
The Browse feature would be nice, but I think I like the ability to edit comments better.
I'd like to continue to see the ability to make custom layouts using CSS. How would the new system work in comparison to S2? I'd also like to see the notificication system actually work - tracking, subscriptions, private messaging etc.
And forgive my stupidity, but what exactly do you mean by not supporting BML? What does that mean we'd no longer have?
For the comment editing, I strongly suggest that no one be able to edit comments that have already been replied to. I can see tons of drama spinning out of control from someone making a comment, someone replying, and then the first person changing the comment and making the reply seem unnecessary, useless, bitchy etc.
Honestly I'm just totally afraid of change and hope too much isn't going to be different. ;)
Just so you know: The comment editing system used by LJ locks the ability to edit a comment that has been replied to, for likely that exact reason.
Oh, I'm aware of that. I just wanted to make sure the same rules will apply here.
I didn't know that about LJ's comment editing. It's a good idea, so I'll do the same.
Notifications will definitely work.
BML (Better Markup Language) is the language that LJ is written in. I honestly have no idea if any user-level tools use BML, but I know that I'm not going to try and write a BML parser.
As for styles - can someone tell me what the difference is between S2 and straight CSS?
Finally, I hope to minimize change as well, but in the interest of time, I'm only going to implement the most popular / most requested features of LJ to start with. Over time I'll get more features, but I want to get the first version out ASAP.
The edit comment feature would be great, but more than that, I'm sure that an automated payment system for accounts like LJ has would help enormously.
Automated paid account processing is high on the list. Trust me. :)
Good to know! Those are the only two things I really miss, so I'll sit tight.
How will this be affecting communities, how they're set up, and the current options for running them?
Also, I'm not sure if this has been explained, but do we get to keep our current journals or will we have to make them again? Will we get enough advanced warning to back things up if there is a move?
At the present time, I don't see this affecting communities at all.
I'm hoping that you'll get to keep your current journals. Content and comments should be doable, but styles may not. I don't know yet, and won't know for a while, 'cos I'm not to a point where I'm ready to implement a style system yet.
I'm a little puzzled as to how you think you can do this without affecting communities at all - are you seriously planning to reproduce all the community-specific features in your first release of the new Inksome?
Note that I did say "at the present time". :)
'kay, I'm a dork and haven't been following along for a while but I figured I'd ask anyway.. have you guys figured out the problem with embedding yet? You know, youtube videos and the like. I swear that was the one thing that kept me from consistently using the site, but I've since gotten used to it in the event it won't be fixed for a long time.
that aside, this post has reminded me once again why I liked inksome in the first place. ♥ |
