We had lots of people join yesterday.
It begins. :D LJers migrating more, I'm sure.
We missed the geeky fandom jokes. But we're quite sure they have something to do with being dead?
Also, congratulations to Kit on the new job squeeeee!!!!!
Us
I advise reading Terry Prachett. Now. :D
Ooooo!!!!!!!!!!
We've been meaning to do that actually but are looking for book recs.

I'm amazed that half-a-dozen people haven't jumped on this yet! Discworld is a sprawling universe, and once the first few volumes are past, there's a consistent 'feel' to different cast's books.
For magical police stories, there are the Watch books, starting with Guards, Guards. The Witches are...well, witches, and I think Wyrd Sisters was my first witches book. Small Gods is a good place to start, as it's pretty well freestanding and doesn't have some of the problems with his earlier volumes. You can also start with one of his young adult novels, and The Wee Free Men is the best of that lot. Really, with the exception of Night Watch-- which is still an excellent book but is better if you've read its predecessors-- you can hop in almost anywhere and have a funny, good, and affecting read. Pyramids is about the only book I wouldn't recommend wholeheartedly, and even that's very fun and readable.
You guys should like...hire more people so that you don't have to deal with all of the heavy load. I would do it very soon, but this is just so that you don't have to worry much about the site when it is being taken care of by your partners.

In all honesty, we don't make enough money to hire anyone right now, and in the current economic climate, I don't really think we could get a loan. staff_kit
I'll be glad to volunteer, but I don't have any coding experience. I'll be glad to be some sort of security guy or something similar, but I can't really do much D:
You might want to put out a call for good volunteers at some point. Certainly it'd be worth a try. And thanks for that announcement.
Actually, we have a volunteers community for that. =) Anyone interested can sign up and we can work on giving out support privileges etc.
Awesome! Keeping reminders in the news posts for the noobs, though, won't hurt.
True enough. I don't think the community was actually formally announced yet. >_> Oops. xD
Oh man, I seriously wish that I had any kind of coding experience. I would love to help out. All I can really offer is customer service and idk how helpful that'll be. XD
You could always help out in support! :)
I'm fairly certain that at this point, it's about getting privs and answering questions. mysticshell has been awesome about doing support and working on the FAQ. Buzz her and see how you can help!
Did someone mention me? =) If you'd like to help with support stuff, you can head on over to volunteers and sign up. I send Kit names of people who'd like to help [when we have them] and he gives them support privileges. I can then let you know what to do where it comes to answering support tickets!
Done and done! /o/ I look forward to helping out! I've only been here for a couple months but I'm already completely in love with this site and its owners, so I'll do anything I can to help. :3
Thank you so much! I'll get on that right away.
All I can say is that you guys are awesome for running this place, and that, in all honesty, even if this place went down more than livejournal on a bad day, I'd still prefer being here. So far it's been an amazing experience, and thank you so much for doing this in what little spare time you have. ♥

This.
Part of it...is definitely us covering our asses. XD I'm backing up my LJs (yes, plural) and transferring them over here. >.> And eventually I'll get a job and a paid account on at least one of them and pray that helps you.
I also hope you manage to get some volunteers. I'm sure there are some of we LJ users pissed enough at it at this point that we'll do anything to keep our journals around in some way.
BTW: LJ is down again this very minute.
I know! I am so peeved b/c I haven't done my back-up yet!
Luckily, the program I used came pre-installed on Mac. XD I wouldn't have known it and I suck at using the Terminal, but it worked! So I have all the important stuff. X3 Now I just have to figure out how to get it all on here. o.o;
subject line is from "monty python & the holy grail"! do i get a cookie? 8D

Thanks for coming up with this site and running it on such a personal basis! It really shows that you actually care about your client-base, not just your client-base's money, which is extremely refreshing. I know I appreciate it a lot!

GreatestJournal died overnight. Maybe that's where some people have come from.
JournalSpace is just recently ashen wreckage, as well. :O
InsaneJournal hasn't been accessible for at least 24 hours. People might be coming from there as well.

I've been using InsaneJournal.
O_O Really?
Me and a few other people have not been able to access IJ at all. We are constantly hit with an error page indicating that the site is down. :/

I'm constantly on IJ for an RPG and it's been fine for me and the other players that I've talked to lately.
It's been completely sporadic for me. Working sometimes, not loading others. It's just strained from all the new users is all.
D: We don't have any coding experience except HTML and that's very rudimentary and very slow as we're trying to teach ourselves. We're also poor college student so we can't even donate to the cause. D: D: :-( We wish there was something we could do to help. If we think of anything we'll poke you.
Matthew
Congrats on the job! :) Best of luck with it, benefits are definitely a good thing. If you need any help, I've put my name down on the volunteering community. :)
Thanks for the update. Congratulations to Kit on the new job. ^_^
Lots of people joining? Yay! Could be a migration from IJ ... that place has been unstable for the pass 24 hours. :(
IJ's probably been unstable because of the mass migration there from LJ. Since IJ doesn't have invite codes, more people are swarming their servers and it's putting a strain on it.
Wish there was something I could do. I'm quite broke at the moment. :/ I do have to thank the Inksome team for wonderful service, though. ^^
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for this service. :) I'll probably look into getting a paid account as soon as I can afford too, even though I don't use this journal much. :) |
